Malunggay has been used for generations in the Philippines.
Almost every home has at least one moringa tree near by.
That”s how the Moringa Tree earned the nickname “The Backyard Pharmacy” and “Nature”s Medicine Cabinet” by Filipina mothers across the country.
And now a new bill has been introduced that would make Malunggay the official National Vegetable of the Philippines! This is great news for Moringa / Malunggay proponents in the Philippines. And can only help to bolster Moringa”s legitimacy world wide.
“Our country is now expanding the local market for malunggay and its by-products with the aim of enhancing the agribusiness potentials of various crops as part of the government’s poverty-alleviation and health care programs,” De Venecia said.
She said malunggay deserved national and international promotion because of its various biomedicall endowments and the many socio-economic benefit it offered to our people.
“Now we can say that malunggay can save lives, increase incomes, generate millions of jobs, utilize vast tracts of idle agricultural lands, and help attain socio-economic equity,” De Venecia said.
